Digital storytelling has the power to open up people’s creativity, and create strong bonds within learning communities. It’s just one of the participatory methods the DEPAL project has explored and we love them all!

Digital storytelling provided inspiring new ways to engage with partners, especially during the lockdowns. It was very empowering, enabling participants (who worked with or were themselves marginalised adults) to express themselves and communicate their perspectives in truly transformative ways.

Participatory Education is good at eliciting experiences and stories from people. When these become digital stories, the value of the stories increases for people. They are now told, heard, seen and recorded in a way that enhances the story and the storyteller.
Participatory Learning and Digital Storytelling are two interlinked methods that helped us to refresh our role as facilitators and gave the opportunity to the participants to bring out the richness of their background and to appreciate the power of group work.

We have found this fertile ground in the Depal project workshops, the seeds are the images and words that the participants have given to the group and we facilitators have savoured, full of wonder, this lush blossoming.
